What is controlling you other than Jesus and your faith? Friends, romance, sex, drugs, booze, school, anger, jealousy? If we let other things control us instead of letting go and letting Jesus and our faith take the wheel, we begin to stray little by little from Jesus, from hope, joy, love and pure happiness that HE provides us. Influences are common every day. When you give in to those negative sinful influences, you are then being controlled by sin. YOU have the strength to not be controlled by anything other than Jesus. You are stronger than you give yourself credit for. That strength you have inside of you comes from God. It even says it in Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me”. Him who strengthens me. God gives you the strength necessary to not be controlled by sin. You have to believe you have that strength and you will see firsthand just how strong you are.
Then the more you don’t let other things control you, you find yourself changed in a positive manner: you become stronger, become a better person, develop better character, become a better follower of Christ day in and day out, and ultimately become closer to God. You have the ability and strength to not be controlled by sin. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation He will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it”. Any negative thing that attempts to influence you, that attempts to control you is not new to God or others. Furthermore, that thing that attempts to control you is not stronger than you. It will not over power you. “….and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability.” Anything that attempts to control you does not have the ability to control you. You have the ability to control it and yourself.
Deep down inside of you is the ability and strength to not be controlled by anything other than faith. God-given strength is what you have inside your heart and soul. You have the ability to let Jesus take the wheel. You have the ability to practice your faith daily to increase that strength. You also have the knowledge to battle negative influences. However if you aren’t sure you’re strong enough, remember God provides us “the way of escape” when standing face to face with sin. That way of escape differs for everybody but a great place to start is prayer and the Bible itself. What is controlling you other than Jesus and your faith? YOU have the strength to not be controlled by anything other than Jesus. You are stronger than you give yourself credit for. You. Are. Strong. Believe in yourself. You will succeed.
